New archaeological findings beneath Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre appear to match St John’s description of the place where Jesus Christ was buried. The Gospel says Jesus was buried there because the tomb was nearby. The excavations do not prove that a particular tomb was the tomb of Christ. Bishop Felix Gmür of Basel, Switzerland, has appointed theologian Sarah Gigandet to a senior leadership position in the diocese. From 1 November, she will share the responsibilities of the vicariate general with incoming Vicar General Ruedi Heim.
